Role Overview
This role is responsible for shaping and driving the overall commercial performance of the Toy & Stationery categories. The successful candidate will oversee product selection, supplier partnerships, pricing decisions, and promotional initiatives, ensuring the assortment remains relevant, competitive, and profitable throughout the year. A strong focus on seasonality, customer needs, and market trends is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Planning
- Define the long-term direction and yearly roadmap for the Toy & Stationery categories.
- Build balanced and compelling assortments aligned with customer demand, seasonal events, and market trends.
- Track consumer behavior, sales performance, and competitor activity to continuously refine category plans.
Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with local and international suppliers, including opportunities for private label development.
- Lead product development initiatives to introduce new, innovative, and commercially viable items.
- Ensure all products meet required quality, safety, and regulatory standards, particularly within toy categories.
Pricing & Promotional Execution
- Develop and maintain pricing frameworks that remain competitive while achieving margin objectives.
- Work closely with Marketing teams to plan and execute key promotional campaigns and seasonal programs such as Back-to-School and festive periods.
- Review pricing performance regularly and respond proactively to market changes.
Operational Excellence & Store Support
- Oversee accurate product setup, stock planning, and promotional execution across stores.
- Conduct regular store visits to review merchandising standards, availability, and customer response.
- Prepare performance insights and recommendations for senior commercial leadership.
People Management & Collaboration
- Lead and develop a team of Buyers and/or Assistant Buyers, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Establish clear objectives and KPIs, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement across the team.
Candidate Profile/Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–8 years of experience in buying, merchandising, or category management; experience in toys, stationery, or fast-moving consumer categories is advantageous.
- Proven negotiation skills with strong supplier relationship management capabilities.
- Comfortable managing highly seasonal product ranges.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
